  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Forgive me for this absurd question, but I gotta ask it so I don't mind fuck myself about it anymore.

All my life I have struggled with brutal and gripping insomnia (never as bad as it is now, however.) Over the years, I've tried every Rx, OTC & natural remedy available. The only thing that ever sort of worked for me was Ambien, but that shit whacked me out.

After Michael Jackson died and I learned about his chronic insomnia issues that led his Dr. to (over) administer his medical "milk" to make him sleep, I could really relate to going to those lengths to get some shut eye.

When I was in the hospital for 6-weeks after not eating for 4 months due to anxiety after my ALS diagnosis, I didn't sleep even once for over 45 days, despite being given strong sleeping meds day & night. The doctors & nurses were incredulous.

My concern is this. Is it remotely possible that my resistance to other sleeping meds might negatively impact the ability of Nembutal to work on me? Can my physiological makeup render me resistant to or tolerant of it? Is this the most ridiculous question you've ever heard?

On the flip side, times that I've had surgery and gone under general anesthesia it has worked fine and I was never awake during any of those procedures. So that gives me hope that this will work.

I'm hoping someone in the know can assure me that my concerns are unwarranted, and that there's no way someone can be resistant to a lethal dose of the euthanasia drug.

Thanks for indulging my neuroses.

Sleep and unconsciousness are entirely different things. A high dose of a barbiturate like pentobarbital isn't going to be ineffective due to a sleep disorder, even a severe one (as you mention, you've been put under for general anesthesia, which usually involves a barbiturate).

Your experience has been that benzodiazepines don't help you sleep, which is valid and not uncommon, but benzodiazepines are a different drug class than barbiturates, so there's no reasons to think that being unable to sleep with benzodiazepines is going to translate to an inability to go unconscious with a barbiturate. Two different goals, using two different drug classes, so you're good. Enough barbiturate will render you unconscious, stop your breathing and kill you, no matter what. If you're still worried about it anyway, order a larger quantity of pentobarbital than normal.

Bus, I was hoping you would chime in with your wisdom, thank you. Makes good sense & I understand now. I can't get more N so I gotta go with 2 bottles and trust that I'm not special enough to defy medical science. Appreciate ya.
