Okay, so I'm frequently woken up by my brother (early 20s) and I want to know if anyone thinks this is normal.

My brother is CONSTANTLY making noises. Like yelling inaudible phrases, talking to himself, making sounds with his lips, making weird breathing noises. It's loud enough for me to hear him while I'm a floor above him with my doors closed.

It's so hard to explain, but basically from the moment he is awake it's impossible for him to just stay quiet.

I'm trying to think of others who are like this, but I can't. I've started to wonder if he has some undiagnosed condition.

LOL, this is probably the dumbest help thread. I just want to sleep.

I personally don't think that's normal, and maybe he does have an undiagnosed condition.
Does he stay up playing video games or is on the phone by any chance?

sounds like he's getting lit. k bad joke, but sorry to hear that it's effecting you're sleep. have you talked to him about it and how it's effecting ur sleep? perhaps music and headphones, those earbuds that cancel out noise and help you sleep, etc. but i think perhaps talking to him about it first instead of resorting to just methods in drowning out the noise, perhaps it is bigger and a medical condition and that he is going through something of his own, crucial to know and find out.

Lmaooo. No it wasn't, that was pretty funny. Yes! I texted him he's too loud at night in the family group chat, and even my mom agreed.

Honestly, I can mention it to him but I doubt he will stop lol. I think it's impulsive. Yeah, during the day it's easier to ignore by putting up the volume on my laptop or something. But I have to turn it down to sleep.

Misophonia?

Honestly, that doesn't seem to be it. I think it's something more similar to Tourette Syndrome, if not that. But, he doesn't make these sounds mid-conversation.

Idk, lol. It's 3:25AM and it's quiet so I know his ass finally fell asleep.

I was just wondering if there is something wrong with your brother too that hasn't been found. That isn't normal. You need to tell him to shut up. Haha

I don't have tourette's and have no diagnosis for OCD however I am plagued by intrusive thoughts (memories and their associated feelings really). If I get exercise they quieten down and I can largely ignore or dispel them with small mimed actions. If I am persistently sedentary (as has been the case for some time - too depressed to move) then I end up vocalising, loudly, usually saying/shouting "fuck off!" (to my own thoughts). If I try to suppress this then it manifests in shaking my head rapidly and violently. Doing this too much gives me a headache as I'm literally damaging my brain (or at least the meninges).
So, for me, it's essentially a symptom of depression related OCD, and it seems similar to what your brother is doing.
