Like another commenter said, my answer would have been a lot higher just a couple of years ago.
I respect that some people feel like having a purpose is not necessary (or, perhaps to phrase it another way, "just existing and experiencing" is a purpose).
The problem for me, personally, is that lack of meaning. Any meaning that I create is very unsatisfying. My life is not good enough, not enjoyable enough for "just existing and experiencing" to satisfy me. I play video games like Skyrim because I want something more, I want to feel important, I want to feel like I belong, I want to feel like I am needed and genuinely valued by others, etc. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome to take a break and just explore Skyrim without a quest marker, but after doing that for a while... I want a good goal to achieve.
But there is no goal worth achieving. I can't even get a job, that is, a fucking quest.
