I don't know if this has been done before BUT i felt it selfish to keep this information to myself if even a single other person can gleam satisfaction from it.

First published on July 4, 1993, this PDF is a full file of an English translation of a suicide manual written in 1993 and revised in 1994. While a rare few pieces of information in this document are outdated, almost everything except the section regarding drugs is factually sound and good info. Browsing around this forum, I doubt there's anything in here that you couldn't find written elsewhere in more condensed writing, but I find the way the book is written to be comforting.

Here's a quick excerpt that sticks with me whenever I'm feeling particularly bad about myself;

"I have a friend who has a drug called 'angel dust'. He claimed that after taking it, his mind would become hazy, and he can jump from tall buildings without the slightest hesitation. He packed it in a small metal pouch, made into a necklace, and wore it everywhere he went. He said: 'When needed, I can eat this to seek death.' My friend does not have a fixed job, and he is idle every day and has a very happy life.

I hope this book can be your metal pouch necklace."

Even though it's 30+ years old this just goes to show the magnitude in difference between countries' attitudes. This book would never make it to print in any judeo-christian nation lol.

Hanging is the easiest and most reliable method - and while it's good to have all of the precautions in place to make sure it doesn't fail, always keep in mind that no method is 100% reliable - people have survived shotgun blasts to the face. A woman in Europe fell 30K ft from a burning plane WITHOUT a parachute. Not only did she live, but after a year in the hospital she was back to normal,

Seems to me that most people who "try" hanging don't want to commit, and try partial, which is why they are failing. If you are nervous about taking that final leap, drink some alcohol or hyperventilate right after you put the noose over your neck. You will pass out, drop, and it will be over with. But remember, you will have this hesitation no matter what method you choose.

And I do have second hand experience. My wife hung herself with an extension cord. Had no idea about carotid arteries or CTB methods. When I discovered her, her arm/elbow was like 3" away from a lamp on an end table. Had she struggled, surely it would have been knocked over.

Something else I want to clear up. People talk about going in to convulsions. Convulsions and myoclonic jerks are not the same thing. This is like comparing a Prius to a F1 car simply because they have 4 wheels. I've had myoclonic jerks from medication (baclofen). They are more akin to ticks. Myoclonic jerks is what's mentioned in the literature in relation to syncope (blood loss to brain). There is such thing as convulsive syncope, which is a convulsion dirorder that involves fainting. It doesn't mean that if you hang yourself you are going to go in to convulsions.

I just think people are overthinking things - and I include myself in that.

Of course you need a good place to do it - but even if you live with someone and have no anchor points - buy one of those excercise band holders that go over the top of the door and do it at 3am when everyone is asleep. When I found my wife she looked completely peaceful, as if she was simply sleeping standing up.

People might find the following interesting about hanging, which reinforces what I said about my wife:

community that once someone hangs himself, his consciousness becomes hazy and his
hands and feet cannot move even if he wants to. Moreover, there is no pain at all during

In Tokyo, an actor performed hanging in front of the audience. The moment he said,
"Squat down like this..." he lost consciousness and died in front of the audience. A
forensic scientist wanted to experience the pain of hanging. He placed a footstool in a
position where he could stand on it at any time and asked his colleagues to be present.
As soon as his feet left the footstool, he suddenly lost consciousness. Fortunately, he was
saved by his colleagues. There are many examples of similar experiences.
A suicide attempter who was rescued from hanging with a wire said: "My head was
buzzing and I didn't know anything. I had no consciousness. Though I couldn't breathe
and reasonably would have felt bad or painful, I felt no such thing."

I've noticed alot of people feel like they are choking when they try it, and people have said it's because the rope is putting pressure on the windpipe, or something like that, as opposed to the arteries that are on the side of our neck. it occured to me, for a partial hanging, it might make sense to place the knot in the front of your neck, and put your head backwards and hang like that.
Thoughts on this?
the book says it has the least amount of physical pain, it is a 3 out of 5 for "ugliness" for whomever discovers you, the ripple (or how much hassle people have to go thru to clean up the scene is 1 out of 5, and a 5 out of 5 lethality. the only downside, imo, is that there will be no question if your death was suicide, accident, foul play etc....it will be clear. that is the only thing I cannot seem to get passed.

Yeah, I heard about this book awhile back and that quote really stuck with me. That, and this quote about Hunter S. Thompson.

He told me 25 years ago that he would feel real trapped if he didn't know that he could commit suicide at any moment.

I think it's a solid viewpoint to have, to feel trapped if one can't commit suicide at any moment, and to keep something on you always just in case.

Thank you for posting this. I did skim through it and saw a section where they talked about drowning in a bathtub by tying your feet and your hands behind your back and then submerging under the water but I'm not quite sure how that would work. I would think even if you tied them both it would still be too easy to come back up for air once the panic starts. Even if you put your face down I'm not sure if it would prevent you from being able to turn over.

The reason I'm curious is because I have been thinking about this as an option as it seems the easiest for me to do in my situation but I'm just not sure that it would be easy to do .

Yes, hanging is the no-shit method. "Do or not do. There is no try."

I get why people are hesitant - nobody likes the thought of suffocating - dangling there fighting for your life.

But from a year's worth of study on the subject of dying, I am more and more convinced that your consciousness leaves long before you suffer.

Not only the anecdotes above about hanging, but I recently read a book about mountain climbers who had fell, tumbled down a mountain over rocks, etc., and lived.

You would think that would be horrific - being ragdolled as your bones are broken and pulled out of socket. But to the people who experienced the actual act, they literally said it was enjoyable. That their consciousness was long gone before any pain was felt.

Now, you may not believe that consciousness survives death, but that's not the point. Whatever you believe the mechanism responsible, our imagination of the pain seems to play a much greater role than what the reality is.

I honestly believe that people who feel like they are choking are trying partial, and not full suspension.

He rated 3 out of 5 for ugliness because some people urinate or lose bowel control. If you are worried about that, just go to the bathroom before.

If you read my post right above yours, I discovered my wife hanging by an extension cord that was wrapped around her neck about 5 times and then she put duct tape over it. She knew nothing about methods or this website.

She did not struggle or appear anything other than looking like she was simply standing up sleeping (she was on her tippy toes).

IMO, don't do partial - that's only going to lead to misery. You want to be sure the carotid arteries are pinched, and the only way to insure that is full suspension.

I don't know it it's the translation or cultural differences but Wataru Tsurumi is lowkey funny at times.

Toward the beginning he says:
"In this consideration, ordinary life no longer has any significance. If you are not alive now, perhaps you are just like a young chicken ready for roasting, passively given a life that you must live. Therefore, drawing a pause in life at an appropriate place is not a matter of "being sad", "it won't happen again", or "worrying about the ripple effects". Suicide is a positive act."

Can you imagine if someone called #988 and instead of being admonished to live he was on the other end of the line saying "perhaps you are just like a young chicken ready for roasting"? Hahaha!

this is how I almost CTB. I was attempting partial hanging by door. the knot was at the back of my neck but somehow made it to my adams apple. during the time of me choking, I barely felt pain, everything i heard became more louder yet fading out, my body was thrashing HARD against the door, i was staring at my ceiling while my body felt a little light. The ONLY thing that stopped all that from happening was the knot that I tied on the OTHER side of the door came apart all of a sudden. When i fell to the ground and went to the bathroom to check myself my eyes were bloodshot red, teary eyed, a little snot all of that. I never got a result like that from all my previous attempts that had the knot at the side or back of my neck and my head slanted forward or to the side. Knot in the front, head leaned to the back plus my body weight got me some actual results my previous attempts never gotten.

Thank you for the mention and I noticed this informative thread. I have not ever read this book but I know it's a kind of legendary book for those suicidal. I didn't believe I get the chance to read it in English

I was attempting partial hanging by door. the knot was at the back of my neck but somehow made it to my adams apple. during the time of me choking, I barely felt pain, everything i heard became more louder yet fading out, my body was thrashing HARD against the door, i was staring at my ceiling while my body felt a little light. The ONLY thing that stopped all that from happening was the knot that I tied on the OTHER side of the door came apart all of a sudden. When i fell to the ground and went to the bathroom to check myself my eyes were bloodshot red, teary eyed, a little snot all of that. I never got a result like that from all my previous attempts that had the knot at the side or back of my neck and my head slanted forward or to the side. i agree and it's also low key real to say that suicide is a good out... for the reasons he outlined.
