Out of curiosity- slight fantasy, I took a look at the Pegasos website. It's non profit making but still, the cost is at least chf10,000 or just over £9,000, or €10,600, or $12,400. Sorry if I missed your currency.

I guess that's everything. All the admin, the drugs, cremation, building upkeep and staff wages but still, it's kind of amazing (to me) how much it costs.

I wonder how much it costs the tax payer to clean up after a suicide- police, coroner etc.

That's an interesting question. I'd guess it must be cheaper than £9k to clean up after one and do all the admin and investigation. I'd definitely pay £9k right now to peace out though.

I would, read guess, depending what country, state, etc., live in works it. Now where I live my estate, if I ctb, would get hit with all the costs. So my guess is that any funds, property anything of value would be used by the government to cover the costs.

If a person has zero equity, then my guess is the taxpayer gets the bill.

There's no way it should cost that much. Although, if I think about it... I've said elsewhere that if suicide ever becomes more mainstream and legalized, there would be a capitalistic/profit motive for companies to provide the service for you... so this is kind of the start of that. If the right people see the profit in it, they might lobby for legalization to profit.

Think marijuana... In the US it has been mostly illegal for a very long time and there are people doing hard time in prison still just for possession of it and no other crime. Meanwhile, as it has become legalized to some degree in parts of the US, some of the same people and companies that were against it realized they can profit from it and government can collect taxes from it... so POOF there becomes support for it to be legal... meanwhile people are still being punished from when it was a crime.

Or gambling in sports... Used to be the ultimate taboo, but as it becomes more legal the leagues and TV announcers have embraced it. The same people speaking the ills of gambling are front and center advertising and participating in the legalized sports betting industry.

Funny how that works.

It's horrible and bad for society, until suddenly it isn't because there's money to be made.

So in a weird way... suicide being illegal might make it cheaper in a weird way... because if it becomes legal, the market will be cornered by people who can afford to monopolize the best methods, the peaceful ones, and then they will ramp up policing against amateur suicide even more. It's bad now, but imagine if you are not only killing yourself but depriving a corporation of their cut of the profit from your death, how hard they will fight you to keep you from killing yourself instead of letting them kill you... for a price!

There's no way it should cost that much. That value is insanely bloated. That being said, I'll still gladly pay it as long as they guarantee acceptance and there's not too much red tape.

Honestly surprised it doesn't cost more. There are so many costs from doctors, sterile medical environments, acquisition of the drugs, nurses, admin/support staff, intake customer service staff, legal staff, compliance, and lawsuits, medical equipment. So many other costs that can't even be listed.

Then on top of all that it is a very low-volume business. When I first looked at VAD, I was expecting anything between $20k and $75k.

Maybe a touch blunt, but I don't think most people here understand the costs and realities of running a business, even a non-profit. Shits expensive. Pegasos/Dignitas have to be running on some razor-thin margins.

I would expect a suicide to cost local governments and EMS anywhere from $3-$20k depending on how messy the death was.

The £329 annual cost is just for the membership (that was the price in 2023) I haven't carried on with the membership due to been in the UK, assisted euthanasia brings alot of attention here by the media and it's not easily accessible for us, I'm not sure how much the actual euthanasia costs however.
