The UK just passed the Online Safety Act which is a bill that requires all websites and forums to do a form of ID verification on all their users under the threat of fines. This is being marketed under the guise of protecting kids, but it will invariably be used for surveillance and censorship of websites government doesn't like (like SaSu). I'm aware that the website is already inaccessible in the UK, however, the EU and the US are considering similar legislation that mimic the draconian system the UK currently has in place.

These power-hungry totalitarians are not satisfied with even this encroachment. They now want to regulate VPNs and some government officials even going so far as to suggest that companies allow them to break end to end encryption.

If you are an UK citizen or resident, consider signing this petition or contact your representative. If you are living in the EU be vocal about your distaste for such measures.

Don't let the future be Orwell's nightmare.

👍 I second that.
It's already got well over the amount required to force it to be debated in parliament, but yes, sign it if you agree!
Edit: actually I think the gov officially responded to it already, so may consider that the end of it?

When someone sacrifices privacy and freedom for the sake of security, they get neither.
In Europe, we often laugh at the censorship in China, but our beloved "real" democracies are following the same path.

It's so stupid, on Reddit you now have to submit a form of ID (or a photo of yourself) to 'prove' you're over 18. It's not even going to the government, I don't think. It's just going to some American company. But hey, I'm sure they'll promise to delete your private info immediately *wink wink*
