It ended up being only 40ft to his death but yes he was certified dead. I guess hitting his head early on knocked him out for good.

Mountain climbing without protection, slipping and then falling to your death might be a good way to go actually.
He slipped a ways, but not that far, he probably didn't die from this unless a rock hit his temple just right.
I dont think he died tho. Thats not a high fall but he landed on some rock and that could be some head injury
