I've found going to the park to help in my case, as I feel most anxious when I am at home. I sit on a bench by myself and watch the birds and people come and go. If there's some breeze, it is soothing. Also, on a couple of occasions very kind elderly people have struck conversation with me, which can be a strange way to feel less anxious if you are a bit antisocial. But then, it is perhaps the no pressure and no expectations attitude of these people that makes a difference.
Also, doing some grocery shopping - if it helps you, no need to buy everything in one go, so that you would have to go more often to buy groceries. Then, if it's a supermarket, you can look around what kind of products they have as a distraction. No need to hurry. Read labels, check prices, try to make different combinations of products in your head for the next lunch or dinner. This might sound crazy, but I've found it helps me.
