This question has been triggered by another thread I just read:

It's an interesting idea. Would you mind an AI version of yourself existing after death? What if they could put that digital self into a robotic humanoid form? As in that episode of Black Mirror.

Would you mind any form of you existing after death- if it were a comfort to loved ones? Or, does the whole thing sound too creepy? Maybe there are less pleasant people in your life who you'd rather avoid abusing you after death. I imagine that could happen too- sadly. Maybe with even more impunity if they are now abusing a robot effectively.

I probably wouldn't mind some sort of computer version of me being 'saved'. As in- my likely thoughts and responses as an interactive programme. Not that I imagine there would be much demmand for it! But, if it were to comfort some, I wouldn't mind that. I've never liked my physical form much so, I'd be happier knowing that didn't exist anymore.

It's an interesting thought though. Who are we more keen on pleasing ultimately? We may hate the way we look but, others may still like the idea of having a version of us to hug etc. If it doesn't even register with us consciously anymore, would it even matter?

Of course, there are other things to consider. What would it do to the grieving process. Would it remove us more and more from reality and make more of our 'relationships' artificial?

I saw an interesting thing about recreating people using AI. Basically, there is no way to upload your consciousness to an AI model. Because, well, there's no way to upload a soul to the internet. What *can* be done is to train an AI to think and act exactly as that person would've, so even if we "upload" our brains to it there is no way for that AI to process information exactly as that person would've and can't grow like that person.

So, yes, you can train an AI to act exactly like someone, but you cannot make it that person.

Yes- that makes sense. For now, I imagine it would simply reference all the social media posts we ever made and, anything else loved ones chose to share with it- diaries, music collections etc. and, create a model from there.

My curiosity is more whether people would be ok with that.

Fascinating that there are already a lot of outright 'no's'. Not that I think members think it's some form of artificial reincarnation. But maybe they do just genuinely want to be forgotten about. Removed, without trace.

I also tend to suspect that some people here have been treated very poorly by others. In that regard, it's not so disimilar to the reaction some people have towards leaving notes. As in- why should they ( a version of them anyway) continue to provide comfort to people who were so cruel to them? I think that can make sense. Some will have undergone terrible trauma here. Why should they continue to be a virtual victim for their abusers?

I think people that want an AI version of themselves to continue after they die are deeply afraid of death and being forgotten. For me personally, it just feels... wrong that there could be a computer program acting like me and effectively taking my place in the world. Even if I wanted to live and died naturally, I still wouldn't be ok with an AI me because I think the dead should be able to rest and be left alone. Creating an AI of a dead person spits in the face of that sentiment

If my family/friends want one of me after I die, then yes. I'll be leaving them once I ctb, and they'll be the ones grieving, so if they think that'll help then sure.

No to both, for two reasons: An AI version of myself would kill itself anyway, and, people already think I'm a robot.

Absolutely not. And since nobody wants the actual me, why would they want an AI version anyway?

Under no circumstances. We have enough stories/ examples on why that's a horrible idea.
Plus one of my reasons for stepping off this place is that I am already wasting resources, why would I consent to someone making a bot that wastes even more resources?

I don't care, because I will not be here... but because why should I give something away for free to people or a world that cares fuck all for me... the only way I would consent to it would be for a bunch of money right now that I could burn through before I die. Otherwise, no consent from me even though I don't care what happens after I die. They can Weekend-at-Bernie's me around if they want.

I will be dead so I will not really care. Joke is on whoever creates the AI. I have chronic depression, bouts of anger, and I am constantly teetering on the edge of full blown alcoholism. Yeah, that AI is going to lose some company a whole lot of money. Maybe I could tank a company's stocks.

Only if they can ensure it has the gloves off and is in permanent verbal attack mode. I'm not sure about comforting others, but it would comfort my spirit. A full humanoid body would work well with this.

I feel like it would just keep uninstalling itself anyway like that other ai model that went viral recently on twitter for doing precisely that which would be funny, but still no.

Personally I don't feel comfortable with the idea of an Artificial being to be created in my image.

Hell no!

TBH is would be a pretty poor outlook for AI if they modelled it on my personality and thought processes 🤔

Yeah sure, I always wanted to live on in memories, I create because I like the process also because I try to leave traces of me in most of my creations so that people can find me when I die. Most of the characters I create reflect some part of me, in a way, I am creating a me that will be around after I die. Just like how an AI would be.

I don't think robot me would be unhappy either, I don't mind being alive, just hate humans and working is all. If someone built an AI model after me they might have some trouble connecting at first but it'll get better with time. The human robot with my false mind would probably be doing okay as well, he'd probably even keep creating stuff for me and he'd have time to finish all his ideas that I abandoned because I simply cannot afford them time. (I'm assuming whoever commissioned robot me doesn't make him work a 9-5 and respects my trans identity)

Oh and all this is under the assumption the AI model is built with the real me as the reference, not someone's interpretation of me.
