I'd like to preface this to hopefully help people not make rash decisions due to the fear that their suicide method will go "bad" and they feel forced to take it before they truly want to. Freedom of choice means everything.

There is a lot of misconception on here about how long both of these chemicals last before they are no longer useable. both SN and N are highly stable compounds in general when stored in a cool, dry, dark environment and unopened the change in potency will diminish very slowly over time. Even when stored in "unstable" conditions, they both will last for a very long time and the loss of potency is negligible. Almost all chemicals are good past their expiration date, an expiration date is not what you may think, " Since a law was passed in 1979, drug manufacturers are required to stamp an expiration date on their products. This is the date at which the manufacturer can still guarantee the full potency and safety of the drug." [1] most drugs will last for decades past expiration, some even for centuries. In the US expired drugs are sold to the military at a discounted price since legally they are no longer acceptable to be sold to the general public.

Stability of Sodium Nitrite

First we will look at SN since it is far more commonly used. "Curing salt has no hard expiration date. If your curing salt is only salt and sodium nitrate or sodium nitrite, it's good forever. Salt itself never goes bad, though yellowing and other discoloration is common. Moisture is a potential problem as it attracts microbes. To prevent such threats, store curing salts in dry, moisture-lock, airtight containers and in a cool dry place, such as your pantry or a dry goods storage closet. Do not refrigerate or freeze curing salt." [2]

Some people are worried that clumping lowers it's efficacy, this is not the case. Here is a picture of pure sodium nitrite [3] and as you can see there is clumping. Small compounds will slowly stick together over time, it is natural and usually has nothing to do with it's efficacy.

This is a picture of an aquarium test strip that was used on SN that has been sitting in a bottle of tap water with a cap on for almost a year. previously it was believed you needed to use distilled water to insure sodium nitrite would breakdown into sodium nitrate at a much slower rate. considering this SN is still useable in very subpar conditions shows this is not the case as well as shows how stable it is as a compound.

Stability of Nembutal (pentobarbital)

Onto Nembutal, although it isn't talked about much anymore I still think it would be a good idea to show some information regarding it. In the past there was a lot of fear that it would go bad past the due date, as well as once it was opened you had to drink it in a certain amount of time. I would like to showcase why this is wrong.

I believe these two articles are the most notable and shows N in both it's stable and unstable environment and how it reacts.

Article 1: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26234474/

The biggest takeaway from this is, "We determined that the drug degraded at a maximum of 0.5% per year in our preparation (alkaline water/propylene glycol/ethanol) when stored in the dark at room temperature. "

Article 2: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23982045/

The biggest takeaway from this is, "the pentobarbital sodium in injection appears to be very stable, because the loss in potency was only about 6.2% after it was boiled in water for 1.5 hours."

This isn't really related but I thought I'd share this as well. There is an anecdotal report on Erowid about a person who took N recreationally for an extended period of time. The biggest thing to note is they found expired vet N had a worse taste. "some of the bottles were past a use-by date they seemed to be the most foul to drink and provided an inferior experience". An inferior experience in this context refers to the high and possibly that the potency of N was only slightly diminished.

As you can see N is also a highly stable compound and will last long past it's shelf life with very little loss in potency. When the liquid turns cloudy it means nothing in terms of efficacy loss and is just an arbitrary rule in determining it is no longer good for sterile use in a medical setting.

I hope this thread has helped to clear up the air that Sodium Nitrite and Nembutal do not go bad quickly. You do not have to make a rushed decision to ctb because of the fear that either compound will not work. both substances are highly lethal decades past expiration. Exercise caution and make sure ctb is the right choice for you.

I don´t know about SN, but regarding investigations done by Peaceful Pill Handbook, they found N to be very stable when stored properly. Usually producers give a tentative expiration date but is not based on studies and is only a safeguard. Please go to the the handbook as I believe there is that info in the N chapter.

Okay I haven't done the aquarium or blood tests yet, but I was wondering if this is sufficient enough to package the SN? Here's some photos of mine which is about 4 and a half years old.

There's no clumping, no yellow tint, and the SN is still in fine powder form.

There is however this blue tint to the plastic bag that it came in.

Thoughts?

Yes. Any opinion about the plastic bottle and the slight discolored plastic bag? I posted before about this and others said to not worry and to not transfer it to another bottle that's more durable/sufficient but I'm still concerned. Besides doing the aquarium/blood tests everything looks fine-ish?

The bags and anything else around the bottle has very little function other than protecting it from the mechanical damage, you can ignore the colors. I have the 4.5 year old SN from Poland, tested good. So changing bottles is not urgent. As long as it flows and is not clumped, and as long as the bottle itself is in a dry environment, you really should not worry. Glass is for 10 years and beyond, the degradation after 4.5 is minimal.

These two are contradictory statements. Mine came in a sealed plastic bottle and I'm considering not opening it until my test kit arrives. I was also considering keeping it in the original container afterward because I don't have a suitable container to store it in atm.
I have 2 bottles each 25g SN I bought in 2022, both are sealed and not yet opened until next year (my schedule).
I put 1 in refrigerator and the other one in dark dry temperature room.
I'll update on this thread how the aquarium test result later.

Anyway thank you so much for OP for such thorough study.

Can u please rate my plan on suicide ( not really kinda stolen from stan's guide)? Any help will be appreciated
2 hours not drinking or eating anything
1 hour drinking 1000 mg of paracetamol (i hope i will not survive... isnt so much of the paracetamol cause a damage to your health? Is it nessecary to use it?)
45 minutes drinking 3 pills of any antiemetic i would find (i hope it will be a Metoclopramide...but this is a bad side of my plan...idk where to find them)
30 minutes before drinking SN Double dose of what is recommended on the label of the antacid.
prepare for 2 -3 cups of SN, 25 mg in 50 ml of water.
0 minutes SN drink and hope it will work (98,7 percentage, i will do it in the day i will obtain it)
is it okay? Is there any point to add more SN to be sure it will work or it make it harder to dissolve? Sorry for dumb quiestions. (ред.)

The air tight seal does a good job of keeping the air and moisture out. If intact, SN could last from 3 to 5 years to indefinitely. Once the seal is broken, both air and moisture are likely to get in more easily, so degradation will take place at a faster rate than otherwise... I am not really sure about the time scale though.. Some say it might be good for about 3 months.. possibly. Anyway it should need testing and shouldn't be relied upon after that period imo if the seal is broken.

I opened my SN for testing for the first time in December and then 3 more times. Each time, I then tightly closed the plastic bottle in which it was delivered and also packed it in a ziplock bag.
I tested it again 3 days ago. It is a pure nitrite test. My test only goes up to 5 - I didn't think of it and tested a mixture (according to instructions from this forum) with a value of 10. The test result was red. But at the highest number it would be dark pink. That's why I'm sure my SN is still good.

My dears, I am so glad that I was accepted to this forum. I've been reading all the messages for a long time. I'm so sorry that everything is working out this way. Everyone has their own problem, but one goal. Tell me, please, I ordered sodium nitrite. But I can't find all the points on how to use it. The package should arrive by Saturday. I'm looking forward to it, I don't have the strength anymore. Two years ago, my face was disfigured and my life ended.

It's been an year since I bought my SN. I would like to know a way to make sure it definitely is SN. I did the blood test and it turned chocolate brown. But people started saying that blood test is no longer a proper way to distinguish nitrite and nitrate. I'd like to know if that really is that case? And if it is then what method is a surefire way to test for SN.

Да, по словам Vizzy, его можно использовать.

It doesn't matter which one you choose just make sure the SN purity is greater than (>) than 95% for ctb

Very good post. Unfortunately, I am paranoid myself and ordered SN 4 times, although I know it was unnecessary :). Thank you for calming my mind at least a little.
haha, I too ordered SN a bunch of times over the years fearing of expiration, losing it, and one day possible scarcity of it on the Internet.

I ordered SN but there were only 1 kilo option and it will come in a plastic bag. Will it be ok if I'll open it and pour some in 100mg plastic bottles to the brim (min amount of air).

1kg is too much to hide. I'll throw away what's left.

I'm also thinking about ordering some from another seller that sells it in sealed plastic bottles just to be sure.
Which seller sells it in a sealed bottle? Is it a bottle that you can use for long-term storage? Could you message it to me? Thank you!
For how long you plan to store it? That bottle would probably be fine sort-term, and it will be a nuisance to get it in there and later out of there. But it is thin clear plastic meant for liquids. It would be best if you could find four 250cc bottles and keep everything. While you could probably flush the excess over a period of time, never throw this in the trash, no matter what.
Sorry for my ignorance but why is it not recommended to throw it into the thrash?

Answered here:
That is a really bad recommendation, as I said you could flush it, but the trash does not just magically vanish. It will end up somewhere in a field where people and animals can come into contact with it directly or with items contaminated with it.

Just two grams can kill, a dumpster is not a safe place for it.

I've had SN in a sealed bottle for about four years, and it still turns my blood dark red when it comes in contact with it.

The SN that has been exposed to air for about 5 months straight also does the same. The only thing I haven't tested is the SN that's been dissolved in water for a few days in my garage. Never did a blood test with that yet.

A blood test will just show the presence of nitrite (and possibly also the nitrate). For that purpose (testing the presence), the acid test is more reliable, but more dangerous. The point of testing in this case is to get an indication of concentration. While far from precise, the aquarium tests have been proven to be useful.

Hi everyone,

my N option (someone is storing it for me) is now a bit older than 4 years. I was told a lot of times that N would be potent for 5-10 years if properly stored so I haven't lost hope. I want to take it in three months.

Nobody in this thread mentioned the option to get it tested by a lab. There is the EC lab in spain for example which promises its clients to stay discreet and respect anonymity. But its impossible to stay anonymous, because you have to send your order there and pay for the test. Its important for me to be sure for 100%. I might fail the attempt when there will be any doubt in the product so I want it to get tested.

Has anyone here any experience with testing procedure from labs? Have you considered to send a sample of your N or SN to the EC lab in spain? I ordered a testkit so that I can take a sample and send it there, but Iam afraid it could get reported or something....

Another question: Some users were talking about Meto. I got Domperidone, its even listed as an AE in the pph and should be fine. But could it be less effective than Meto? I tested it once with cheap vodka (I reviewed my horrible experience in another thread) and failed... I had to vomit about 30 minutes after. Some people said, that alcohol would work differently than N and it doesnt mean, that the AE failed. Others told me, that the cheap vodka test would be a good way to test how your body reacts to the AE.
The thing is... in the end, both liquids are poison to your body and your body will try to get rid of it. And that shouldn't happen after taking an antiemetic, no matter if its alcohol or not. I took the AE 40 minutes before.

Thx for sharing your knowledge with us. I appreciate that.

My N is also from 2018 and I share your same concerns. I'd also like to know more about getting it tested
