• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

I just realized it's Easter day tomorrow.
I watched 'The Greatest Story Ever Told' today. The story of the events of Christ's life. I've always found the story to be quite compelling.

As a once christian, Easter holds a special place in my heart. I can still read the gospels during time of profound sorrow. Although they hold no religious significance, they fill my heart with beauty and the possibility that there could exist a world ruled by a loving god who watches over us, sooths my troubled mind.

I am in Scandinavia. Where are you? Here's it's Easter Eve.

That's what I said. You missunderstood me correctly.

It's just that the big Easter party is on Easter Eve here.

I'm fascinated by all mythologies and I studied the gospels at school. Not John though, for some reason they wouldn't let us read John.

Then on Easter day everyone sleeps off their hangover.

I bet @Sensei is having a go at the liquor cabinet as we speak. Unless he's already passed out under the table.

We don't have ant big easter parties here. But people will use any excuse to drink. What is the BIGGEST think here is Dyngus Day, which is after easter . Yes Easter is big for what it is though. But the most partying is the day after LOL

That actually made my childhood Catholic wince.

I know EXACTLY what you mean.

You struggle to master your arrogance, I work hard to master my childhood traumas about religion and sin :(

No traumas but I was taught by nuns and priests. I actually assumed they all thought it was allegorical. :O

What an innocent lamb you were! And smart as well :sunglasses:

By the age of 10 I was convinced I had committed several mortal sins and had recurring nightmares about the devil taking me to hell. I had troubles sleeping and was obsessed with the mantra : thou shall not sin in words, in acts or in thoughts. The latter was my biggest challenge and the reason I believed I would burn in hell. I had "impure" thoughts.

That really pisses me off that religion would do that to a child. I still believe religions have some underlying value but it makes me angry that everyone gets hung up on the mythology and rewrites the narrative in order to control. Guilt should not be used to drive home values. That's not the message I got from the gospels anyway.

Guilt and sin are central to christiany, unfortunately. I suffered a lot because I was very impresionable and also hard on myself. As a kid and a teen I had impossibly high moral standards. Me posting this photo of a swing on the cross is my silly attempt to revenge that little girl and prove to myself that the doctrine of sin no longer holds sway over me.

What's always puzzled me is that I was raised in Christianity and yet I seem to have a different interpretation of it to so many other people. I thought Jesus was cool in the gospels and had a very straightforward message that history seems to have ballsed up.

Lol as an aside I met a creationist a few years ago. Imagine that. Archaeologist geologist and a creationist. I can be open minded but there comes a point when I just point and laugh.
